Here we are again, another big milestone in our kid's life. We have plenty more of those coming. Landon skipped his junior prom, but according to a lot of teens, most do. It's the senior prom that seems to get everyone excited. Why? Not sure. It could be that it's one last hoorah before they leave high school, knowing graduation is right around the corner. I haven't the slightest idea. He came to us with the idea. He wanted to go with his friends and one of his friends worked on getting a limo for the night. The plans were still foggy at that point. It took Landon awhile to figure out what he wanted to wear. If you don't know our kid, he marches to the beat of his own drum and he doesn't care at all what people think. I love that about him.
We all discussed it and came up with a plan to visit the store so he could get an idea of what he liked. I'm not a tux girl so I thought Aaron could step in and help on this one. Well, Aaron wasn't any good at it either. He just let Landon shop around and make his decision on colors and the type of tux he wanted. Sounded good to me. Again, not my area of expertise. He shopped for a little bit and asked a few questions. He got fitted (first trip) and picked out everything (second trip) and refitted to make sure the tux was a good fit (third trip). I was a little nervous about the white tux. A teen boy in white? What could possibly go wrong? I imagined them going out to eat and him covered in ketchup or BBQ before he made it to prom. I underestimated him. He only had a little bit of a black scuff mark on his leg at the end of the night so that was impressive. His prom theme was Into the Woods and took place at Mellwood Arts and Entertainment.
There was an after-prom party called Holiday World at Floyd Central. All of the seniors received t-shirts to wear to the party. He didn't take his clothes but chose to make a pit stop at home to change and go back out. He didn't get home until around 2:30-ish am. Needless to say, Aaron and I didn't sleep much. He said he had a blast and for that I am happy and grateful. I wanted him to at least experience one prom during his high school career and I'm so glad he did. I think he is, too.
