A Day of Crawdads and Minnows
This was fun. I haven't waded in a creek for many decades (I won't say how many). I know kids get lost in electronics and somehow lose that human interaction that they need, so I try to keep my kids' childhood alive by doing the "old school" things I used to do when I was a kid. I was all about catching lightning bugs and climbing trees, and let's not forget about making mud pies and serving them to your friends. I like the organic feel of getting dirty or soaked from head to toe. Having fun and creating those special memories is what life is all about! I went for a walk in the rain with my family the other day. It was a blast and something I hope my kids will remember down the road. "Remember that one time we...." That's what I love the most. This was no different. I got the bright idea to do something we haven't done yet. I took Liam to the park where there was a creek near by. He took off his little shoes and dipped his toes in before going for it. He noticed the minnows and crawdads, which made him hesitant at first. He's a very cautious young man. When I reassured him that they wouldn't bother him, he got right in. I let him get used to walking on slimey rocks before I got in with him. I almost bit the dust a few times. I never fell into the water, but I was wiggling all over the place to try to get my balance. My eight-year-old laughed hysterically. Guess who fell into the water? Liam. Karma? Perhaps. We both laughed and then he played and splashed for awhile. Greatest day ever!
