Landon is definitely a special, one-of-a-kind kid. He has always been level headed and knows exactly what his priorities are. For instance, he came to us and told us (even his friends) that Landon had girls all over him and asked HIM out. He would respond with, "Sorry, but I'm not interested." His friends couldn't believe that he was passing up the opportunity to be with really pretty girls. He told us (and them) that he wanted to focus on his academics and girls are too much work. I've never seen anything like it. He has been breaking hearts since kindergarten and he has no regrets. Poor girls. But then I look at all he has accomplished over the years and I have to say, good for him!
From the time he was ten he appeared to have a more mature mindset. He was doing his own research. How? I have no idea. He made up his mind that he wanted to go to Purdue University for Engineering. According to him, which is accurate, it is the top school for engineering. What in the world? He was 10!! He stuck with that for quite some time.
Then he moved on to wanting an art degree. I turned that one down very quickly. He mentioned this around his freshman year of high school.
Then he brought up Graphic Design. I thought that was a better option since it's still in the "art" industry. At least he'll be able to support himself.
THEN he took an AP Psych class and the rest is history. He fell in love and told us he figured out what he wanted to do the rest of his life. He chose Clinical Psychologist as his career path and hasn't looked back since. The mind is a very beautiful, complex thing and that field seems to fit him perfectly.
Landon graduated Summa Cum Laude with Academic Honors. He is also enlisted in the US Army Reserves (completely his idea). He will go to basic training for 10 weeks in MO then VA for 11 weeks for his AIT. Once he comes home, he will be working close to home once a month and up to two weeks in the summers with the Army and possibly starting college at UofL the following spring. Once he gets established, and if it's not too much on him, he will also look into a civilian job. One step at a time, though. We are beyond proud of this young man. I consider us to be very lucky parents and blessed beyond words.
