I can't say that this birthday was any different because Liam is more of a chill, easy-going kid - always has been. He did mention having a few friends over, but I quickly shut that idea down. Then I thought about having a birthday parade so Liam could see his friends and family. I thought that might be a little extra on my part and unnecessary. So, we did it simple. His birthday fell on the first day of school this year. He had two things to look forward to and Liam was thrilled. He said he couldn't wait to get home and see what he got.
The time came for Liam to arrive. Aaron and I were both home from work that day. Liam still loves balloons, so while he was gone I stopped off and got a handful. He walked through the door and his jaw dropped. He wasn't expecting balloons much less a bouquet of them. He did his usual excited wiggle and squeal and then waited patiently for his dad to come in the room to watch him open his present.
This is the face of a boy who just saw what he got. He was happy.
He asked for magnet tiles.
He's a sucker for gummy anything!
And then Mamaw and Papaw came over to visit with Liam. We hung out outside and social distanced ourselves. Well, Liam had a headache and passed out on the couch right before they arrived. We waited and waited to see if he would get up but, anytime he did wake up, it was to throw up from the pain. This kid hates medicine so taking care of him is a challenge sometimes. They left and then the next day Liam opened his gift from them. I took a picture and sent it so they could at least have a picture of him opening his birthday present.
